The ancient village of Brancaleone Superiore is located on the top of a hill in Calabria region, southern Italy. From up there is possible to look over a vast stretch of Ionian coast. During its history, Brancaleone was repeatedly struck by earthquakes and landslides. In 1951 the old village was finally abandoned. The inhabitants moved to the coast where the new town of Brancaleone Marina had risen. The ancient village of Brancaleone is now a ghost town.
Bova is a hilltop village in Calabria, southern Italy. Located more than 800 meters above sea level, this ancient town is made up of steep alleys and stairways. To reach the top of the village, you need to be fit. Needless to say, the view from up there is fantastic. Bova is the cultural center of Calabrian Greek linguistic minority and most road signs are bilingual.
