“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” -Jacques Cousteau

I miss the sea. Alas, at the moment I can only see it on photographs. So I re-edited a photo I took nine years ago. I was in Scala dei Turchi, on the southern coast of Sicily. This time I edited it in black and white. Small solace.

Shipwrecked

Capo Bruzzano, Italy

In March 2007 Kurdish refugees reached Italy on the Turkish fishing vessel Kaptàn Balikcilik 1. A sea storm made them strand on the beach of Capo Bruzzano in Calabria, southern Italy. I believe they were all rescued by the Coast Guard. At least I hope so.

I took the picture the day after the shipwreck. It’s been 10 years since then. I re-edited the photo and a sepia look seemed perfect.
