Lucca, Piazza dell’Anfiteatro

Lucca. Piazza dell'Anfiteatro.

Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, Lucca, Tuscany.

Lucca is one of the most picturesque towns in Tuscany. Of Roman origins, Lucca had its heyday in the Middle Ages. The square “Piazza dell’Anfiteatro” combines both eras. It was, as the name implies, an amphitheater in Roman era. Then, during the Middle Ages, the foundations of the amphitheater were incorporated into later buildings. The result is this amazing oval square with four porches of access.
