Sardinia, “Pan di Zucchero” Sea Stack

Lo scoglio Pan di Zucchero a Masua

Sardinia, on the western coast, has a provincial road called 83 that descends among the rocks. After a bend, you can see the sea and a bay with abandoned buildings from the Masua mine.

In the bay, there is a large white rock that resembles the hump of Moby Dick, the great white whale. It is called Pan di Zucchero (Sugar Loaf) and is the tallest sea stack in the Mediterranean, reaching a height of 133 meters. It has been given this name since the eighteenth century because it looks like the Pão de Açúcar in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

While walking on the beach, I found a fish skull that had washed ashore. It was clean and shiny, and it looked like the skull of a tuna
