The ancient village of Brancaleone Superiore is located on the top of a hill in Calabria region, southern Italy. From up there is possible to look over a vast stretch of Ionian coast. During its history, Brancaleone was repeatedly struck by earthquakes and landslides. In 1951 the old village was finally abandoned. The inhabitants moved to the coast where the new town of Brancaleone Marina had risen. The ancient village of Brancaleone is now a ghost town.
The ancient Brancaleone remained in complete abandonment for more than 50 years. Slowly the vegetation was gaining possession of the old village. Recently works have been done to make the ancient Brancaleone safe to visit.
